Metagama
Painting based on this picture of the SS Metagama, a transatlantic ocean liner.

Launched in 1914 by Barclay, Curle & Co. of Glasgow, operated by the Canadian Pacific Steamship Co, and, after 151 North Atlantic roundtrips, scrapped in 1934.

I painted the ship in several sea states including, storms, calm seas, sunsets and moonscapes. For examples of eight versions of the ship in different conditions see the separate page designed around a ship's wheel wheel. This includes some links to very large images.

This scene recreates the Metagama passing the Butt of Lewis lighthouse on the isle of Lewis, which it did on Saturday 21st April 1923 after leaving Stornoway, heading west to Canada, with 300 young Lewis emigrants on board, all but 20 of them young men, with an average age of 22.

Most never returned.
